Ricky Budgen

Ricky is a level 1 Boxing Coach, a Strength & Conditioning Coach and a Sportsmind Trainer (NLP based psychological skills training for athletes). Ricky began boxing in 1985, he turned professional in 1992 winning the Australian Straweight and Queensland Light Flyweight Title. Ricky also challenged for the Australian Flyweight Title and travelled to Bangkok Thailand to challenge the (PABA) Pan Asian Boxing Association champion. Even though Ricky didn’t win that bout he says it’s the proudest moment of his career. Hearing the Australian national anthem in front of hundreds of Thai’s and punching on with 6oz Cleto Reyes Mexican gloves (now banned) still puts a smile on his face!

Ricky has had over 50 bouts which include Amateur and Professional boxing, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Submission Wrestling. Winning the BJJ Will-Machado Asia-Pacific Championship in the Super lightweight division 2009. Continuing on with his journey Ricky is currently a Brown belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
                                                                                       

Dean Stewart

Dean is a Brown belt Brazilian Jiu Jitsu instructor under Vincent Perry at PUMMA, with years of competition experience including a national title. Dean began his martial arts journey boxing as a kid in Penrith, Sydney. His love of boxing carried through his career as he continued to box in the Royal Australian Airforce.

Darren Freiberg

Coach ‘Daz’ started his sporting career in soccer reaching a high of representing Australia between 1986-1987. After retiring from soccer Darren started free style karate achieving a 1st Dan black belt in just two years.

Under the tutelage of 4X Muay Thai world champion Scott Bannan, Darren started a fighting career in 1996 amassing 20 fights, which include an 8 man tournament where Darren fought 3 times in the same night. Darren has been holding pads and training professional and amateur fighters for over 20 years. Training with the likes of Brain Ebersole, Nathan Corbett, Bruce Macfie and many more world class athletes and brings a wealth of knowledge to the Empire team.

Nicholas Grant

Nick has an unmatched dedication and passion for martial arts which has excelled him to multiple regional, state and national titles. Nick holds an education degree which allows him to connect and bridge the gap between the different learning abilities of all his students.

Nicks infectious and outgoing personality, as well as his deep understanding of the sport makes him a well loved, integral part of the empire team.

 

Jemma Peart

Jemma is an experienced amateur boxer. At only 24 years old Jemma has accomplished a gold medal at State titles as well as a silver at Golden Gloves. Jemma is at the gym every day and her hard work and dedication to boxing are soon to lead her to great things. Jemma is always available for support or just a chat. Come in and try out her women’s only boxing classes friday afternoons.
